NuSTAR in Orbit


A NASA orbiting telescope able to view the cosmos through the lens of hard x-rays has been launched. Its rocket ignited in the night skies south of Kwajalein Atoll after being dropped from the underbelly of a Lockheed L-1011 plane. The Nuclear Spectroscopic Telescope Array (NuSTAR) was developed by a team of scientists and engineers under the leadership of Fiona Harrison from the California Institute of Technology. It will use an innovative system of nested x-ray mirrors to open a new window onto the cosmos. It focuses the light into images 10 times sharper and 100 times more sensitive than any previous high-energy x-ray telescope.

“Every time there is a new instrument with significantly better sensitivity than any previous instrument, significant discoveries are bound to follow” said SLAC astrophysicist Greg Madejski.


Probable contributors that NuSTAR is suited to view are the innermost regions of black hole event horizons, where particles being slurped up by black holes are boosted to near-light speeds, like too many race cars jammed onto a too-small track, with cosmic fireworks as the result.

NuSTAR will team up with other telescopes to study the high-energy universe. It will use its x-ray eye to examine jets of particles blasting out of active galactic nuclei that already have been pinpointed by the Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope.

With NuSTAR, the cosmic rainbow will be one step closer to complete.

NASA to Launch Hole Hunter


The U.S agency is ready to set out a launch telescope into space June 13 to seek the study the black hole. Even the mysterious celestial bodies that the scientists believe that the heart of the massive galaxy that includes our own Milky way. Gravitational pull is extensively seen in the black hole so that not even light will escape from them. Gas, dust, stars suck up the best material structures and heats up generating powerful X ray light emissions.

A decade back the scientists thought that black holes are rare. But now the thinking as been changed for past 20 years. But recently NASA was setting a conduct with the census of the black hole in the universe. A new space telescope has been launched by the U.S space agency called the NuSTAR.” Stars ,nebulae, and black holes emit X rays of the type that we use in medical X rays, and these cannot be detected from the surface of eth Earth,” said by Hertz. 

“But the NuSTAR telescope will focus these X rays onto its digital camera and send the pictures back to Earth for scientific analysis.”This NuSTAR will be just like the size of the refrigerator but it will be hidden tool. The NASA scientists say that every three black holes in the universe of hidden. These black holes are behind the veils of dust and gas. This telescope will help the black hole spinning with the help of the scientists. Paul hertz said that ”Like all of our NASA missions, were going to find unexpected things out there that will lead us to questions and answers that we aren’t even anticipating at this time,”

NuSTAR to launch in June 13

NASA’s Nuclear Spectroscopic Telescope Array or NuSTAR is being prepared for the final journey to its launch pad on Kwajalein Atoll in the Central Pacific Ocean. It is scheduled to launch no earlier than June 13. The mission will study everything from massive black holes to our own sun.
“We will see the hottest, densest and most energetic objects with a fundamentally new high-energy X-ray telescope that can obtain much deeper and crisper images than before” said Fiona Harrison.
After taking off on launch day the Stargazer will drop the rocket around 8.30 am PDT (11.30 am EDT). The rocket will then ignite and carry NuSTAR to a low orbit around Earth.
“We’re all really excited to see the fruition of our work begin its mission in space” said Yunjin Kim, the project manager for the mission at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena Calif.
NuSTAR will be the first space telescope to create focused images of cosmic X-rays with the highest energies. The telescope will have more than 10 times the resolution and more than 100 times the sensitivity of its predecessors while operating in a similar energy range.
The mission will work with other telescopes in space and provides a more complete picture of the most energetic and exotic objects in space such as black holes, dead stars and jets traveling near the speed of the light.
The result of these modest investments is a small space telescope that will provide world-class science in an important but relatively unexplored band of the electromagnetic spectrum.
NuSTAR will study black holes that are big and small, far and near, answering questions about the formation and physics behind these wonders of the cosmos. The observatory will investigate how exploding stars forge the elements that make up the planets and will even study our own sun’s atmosphere.
The mission’s outreach program is based at Sonoma State University in Rohnert Park, Calif.
